Cloud Computing is one of the major technological advancements in the Information Technology industry. Almost every IT sector, such as Software, Hardware and Databases are now moving in to Cloud Technologies. There are various advantages of Cloud Computing for the enterprises when compared with On-Premise Systems. But the nature of Cloud Computing itself, has created some new challenges. Database Cloud or DBaaS is one of the major components of the Cloud, which is dedicated to store various types of data. Due to the importance and criticality of Data, Database Cloud Adoption needs to be carefully analyzed as per the business requirements.
Cloud Technology with its diverse nature, has created opportunities for Telecommunication Service Providers to select effective services and business models as per their requirements. Database Cloud Technologies are still not fully adopted in Sri Lanka and there are large number of enterprises which use On-Premise Systems. Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd is one of the Sri Lanka’s major Telecommunication Service Providers, which offers various Telecommunication Services and Value-Added Services. Mobitel is currently using On-Premise Database Systems and it has become important to adopt in to Database Cloud Technologies to overcome the challenges created by increasing demand and also to use new features and innovations.
