Abstract

Most of the projects in the food industry become complex due to involvement of the various stakeholders with different backgrounds. Therefore, dimensions of the project management play a major role in completing project with successful outcome. Sociocultural dimensions of the project management are known as “art” of the project management while technical dimensions of project management are known as “science” of the project management. Right balance of the both dimensions during execution stage required high project performances. Therefore, this study based on determining impact of sociocultural and technical dimensions of project management on project performances related to the food manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka. Author’s working experiences and survey conducted by SLFPA explained background of the research question. Project management professionals who are working in the food companies registered in the SLFPA selected as sample size for the study and online anonymous survey was shared with them to collect data for determining project management dimensions on project performances. One of the key objective behind the study was to identify awareness of project management dimensions and project performances by the project management professionals in the food industry. Sociocultural and technical dimensions of the project management selected as independent variable and project performances selected as dependent variable for the study. Pearson correlation analysis and multi liner regression analysis was used to determine relationship between project management dimensions and project performances and impact analysis. Project professionals have high awareness of project management dimensions and project performances concepts. There is a significant positive relationship between project management dimensions and project performances. All the tested variables together affected strongly positive towards project performances. Main limitations of the study are research findings cannot be applied for other industries and time period for data gathering was not adequate. Based on research findings, companies and project professionals can more focus on sociocultural and technical dimensions of project management to achieve successful outcome of the project
